Our Pre-K (4 Year Old) Classes

Curriculum for Our Pre-K Classes

The primary focus of our Pre-Kindergarten (4 Year Old) Classes is to promote social-emotional growth through developmentally appropriate experiences that are holistically integrated into play. Children practice self-regulation and problem solving, while developing both confidence and patience.

Each day their curiosity is sparked by exploring art, writing, reading, science, blocks, construction, dramatic play, math, and the outdoors as a class, at stations and in small groups with ample guidance and support. Additionally, we emphasize pre-math and pre-literacy that is embedded in our daily routines, transitions, songs, class jobs and games.

General topics are presented for the children to study that are relevant to them and include materials and experiences that serve as jumping off points we will expand on. The topic of study may change or evolve as the children’s interests expand.

This emergent curriculum combined with a hands-on, interactive, and child-directed approach fosters a love of learning and a curiosity about the world and future success in school and life!

Additional components of the day are snack, outdoor play a small group experience and a large group experience which includes story, songs, and group discussion. Children have learning opportunities in pre-reading and writing through print awareness and sense of story. Children learn particular letters and sound combinations through an exposure to letters and words that are meaningful and relevant to them, such as their names, friends’ names and topics of interest. Children have opportunities with pre-math learning through measuring, sorting and counting songs.
