Parent Participation

Parents and teachers of FUMC Preschool work together to provide a quality, developmentally appropriate preschool program for children. Parents assist as classroom helpers, serve on committees, provide nutritional snacks for the classrooms and may serve on the Parent Advisory Board.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

At FUMC Preschool each preschool parent is required to:

• Work a set number of days as a parent helper in their child’s classroom

• Provide snack for your child’s classroom 5-7 times per year.

• Serve on one committee to assist in the functions of the FUMC Preschool.

Parent Workdays

Parents have the opportunity to work directly with preschool children in a formal educational atmosphere and under the supervision of trained professionals.  This provides them with a unique opportunity to gain insights into the development of their own children and ways to reinforce in the home the things their children are learning in school.

Parent Helpers are a vital part of the teaching team. We have two Parent Helpers in each classroom every day.  Helpers arrive 15 minutes before class begins so that the teacher will have the opportunity to plan instruct parents in the plan for the day.  Children of Parent Helpers come with their parents early to class.

Approx. # of workdays

4 day class/wk...................18/school year

3 day class/wk...................14/school year

2 day class/wk...................10/school year

(Number of workdays required is dependent upon class size.)

Parents may choose to pay for all or part of their workdays for $30/workday.

Childcare is available for younger siblings during workdays for a fee.
